Summer Palace

Slowly by slowly we’re finally starting to have chances to explore Vienna and see some of the sights. There’s a lot of them so we’re looking forward to all of it when we get the chance!! This evening, we went to what used to be “out of town” here in Vienna, the site of the old Monarchy’s summer Palace and hunting ground called Schönbrunn which means beautiful spring. Beginning in the 17th century, the Monarchs built this amazing palace and garden area as their get-away and hunting ground. Today, it’s one of Vienna’s most popular tourist attractions and has been used in various ways since being opened to the public in the late 19th century. President Kennedy met with Russina leader Nakita Khrushchev here in 1961 during the Cold War. Today, it sits just in the middle of Vienna…a beautiful place to stroll, and escape the city…all about 15  minutes from our apartment. Tonight’s sky made it truly amazing though!!
